How the favorites list works
Every tool card and article card carries a small star. Clicking it adds that page to this list and changes the star to a filled state; clicking it again removes the page. The list is sorted newest first, groups tools separately from articles, and keeps the original card title so you can recognise a page without opening it.
There is nothing to sign up for. The list is not an account, not a profile and not a public collection — it is a personal shortcut built from whatever you star on this device.
Why your starred pages never leave the browser
The whole site is static HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and the favorites feature follows the same rule as every calculator here: computation and storage happen locally. Your list is written to your browser's LocalStorage under this site's own key. It is never posted to a server, never merged with an advertising profile and never sent to us — we have no database to receive it.
That design has two practical consequences. First, clearing your browser's site data, using private or incognito mode, or switching devices gives you an empty list. Second, no one else can read your list, including the people who maintain this site. If you want a portable copy, use the browser's own bookmark feature alongside the star, or note the tool slugs you rely on.
Good starting kits
If you are new here, these three combinations cover most hybrid-work decisions without opening all 27 tools:
- The RTO cost kit — the Commute Cost Calculator, the Effective Hourly Rate Calculator and the guide The True Cost of Commuting in 2026.
- The fair-week kit — the Hybrid Schedule Generator, the Meeting Equity Self-Audit and the guide Best Days to Go Into the Office.
- The home-office kit — the Home Office Deduction Checker, the Desk Ergonomics Checkup and the guide W-2 Home Office Deduction in 2026.
Questions about the list
Does the favorites list require an account?
No. There is no login, no email verification and no account system anywhere on this site. Starring a page writes one entry to your browser's local storage.
Can I sync favorites between my laptop and phone?
Not today. LocalStorage is per browser and per device. Cross-device sync is listed on the Pro roadmap as a planned opt-in feature, not a live one.
Why did my list disappear?
Most often because site data was cleared, private browsing was used, or the page was opened in a different browser profile. Nothing was lost on a server — there is no server copy to restore from.
Do stars affect the calculators?
No. Starring is a shortcut only. A tool behaves identically whether it is starred or not, and saved inputs are stored separately for each tool.
